Victor Harbor

Today we went on our last tour. We are leaving Kangaroo Island for the next time we come to Australia because it is too much to see in one day. We had just done a wine tour two days ago. I wasn't in the mood for a river cruise or a harbour cruise in the current cool weather. Sean and I walked around the city centre yesterday. Which pretty much left us with a tour to Victor Harbour and McLaren Vale.
This trip took us through the Adelaide Hills, and a lot of dairy farms, market gardens, then later sheep and cattle farms, and fields for grain (it being winter, crops weren't evident). As well as vineyards (a white wine area), and new olive orchards. We also passed through a number of towns on the Fleurieu Peninsula. What isn't agricultural is tourist (all the seaside is tourist towns, where Adelaide people have summer homes).
Our first stop was at McLaren Vale, where we sampled almonds at a nut shop (and bought some) - almonds were long a basic crop around here. We also checked out a chocolate factory (and Dave bought chocolate covered crystallized ginger). We decided we'd better stop with checking out stores with foodstuffs, and went for coffee - and a scone.
Then we went to Victor Harbour, a seaside town. Over a wooden causeway is Granite Island, and a horse-drawn tram travels back and forth to the island (as per photo). We didn't take the tram, but just walked around a bit - the causeway is also a pedestrian pathway - and we saw one car (permit holders only) cross it. Sean walked over to the island, around it (1.5 km) and back again. We all had fresh fish and chips for lunch. We were in Victor Harbour for more than two hours - it's a nice little seaside town, complete with a small amusement park with carousel for the kids.
On the way back this afternoon we stopped in the historic town of Strathalbyn - it makes a living selling antiques - the main street is antique shop after antique shop, and some of them are huge. Nestled among the antique shops are tea rooms and a lolly shop. I imagine it's abuzz on a summer weekend - and I imagine the other towns would be too.
So we saw another side of Australia again today. It's quite the country to visit!
